Welcome to Nils Liedholm Cup 2012
A football tournament for boys and girls aged 13 to 16 in the little coastal town of Valdemarsvik with the amazing archipelago close by.
Nils Liedholm grew up at Grännäs in Valdemarsvik and it was there, at Grännäs football ground, his fantastic football career began. Just like many children and youths of today Nils dreamt of becoming a professional footballer, a dream that eventually came true.
From Waldemarsvik's IF Liedholm moved on, first to Sleipner and then to IFK Norrköping. He played 23 times in the Swedish national squad and won an olympic gold medal in 1948. In the 1958 World Cup Liedholm was skipper in the Swedish team that finished second. In 1949 he signed for AC Milan where he reached great fame together with two other prominent Swedish footballers – Gunnar Gren and Gunnar Nordahl. After having finished his professional career as a player Liedholm coached Italian football teams successfully for several years and won the Italian Premier League with both AC Milan and AC Roma.
Football clubs from Sweden and even Europe are invited to have their youths playing football in truly classic footballing surroundings. The recreation area of Grännäs, close to the beautiful archipelago of Valdemarsvik, will also offer other activities and possibilities, such as having a swim in the Baltic Sea, being pulled in an inflatable tyre by a boat, playing mini-golf, canoeing and mingling with new and old football friends at an outdoor disco. As hosts and organizers of this cup we will really work hard to make it an unforgettable and special occasion for all and sundry.
Last year's cup was a great success. The weather conditions were really nice and the joy among all people present, players, parents, officials as well as visitors, was noticeable and unmistakable. Our arrangements met with much appreciation from the participating teams, many of which talked about the best tournament they had ever experienced. All facilities are situated in the same calm and relaxing area, such as football pitches, bathing, outdoor disco and canteen and it takes only a 15 minutes' walk on the pathway along the inner parts of the beautiful fjord to get to the centre of Valdemarsvik. In the morning participants are bussed to Grännäs football ground and during the day buses run regularly there and back again. All in all, it is with great enthusiasm we look forward to welcoming you ti the cup of 2012.
During the cup of 2011 we were visited by several guests, among others Tilda Heimersson and Elin Borg, representing both the first division team Linköping’s FC and the Swedish national team for women and also Anders Wikström and Marcus Johansson, firts division players from IFK Norrköping.The amazing ball tricks performed by the Swedish freestyle jugglers Mattias and Kim were highly appreciated by everyone.
The opening ceremony will take place on 28 June 2012.
Activities
We offer a great range of activities, such as bathing, canoeing, being pulled in an inflatable tyre by a boat, partying on the beach and an awesome outdoor disco.

Nils Liedholm Cup has adjusted exemptions of age according to the competition regulations of the Swedish Football Association and the
Association of the district of Östergötland. Exemptions of age are applied for to the associations respectively and are brought to the cup. No over – age players are allowed to participate without exemptions approved of. |
Matches
Every team is guaranteed at least five matches in the tournament. In the playoff a winning team must be appointed, if necessary by a penalty shoot-out ( 5 penalty kicks a team ) directly after the match has ended. The matches, both in the groups and the playoffs, are played 2 x 25 minutes.
All the matches are played on turf except at bad weather conditions when gravel pitches will be used.
Rules and regulations
The matches will be played according to the regulations established by the Fifa and the Swedish Football Association for eleven-aside-football.
A player is allowed to play in more than one team belonging to the the club he / she represents, but merely one team in the same age group.
The players must be registered for the club they represent in the tournament.
16 players are allowed to take part in a match but there is no limit to the number of players entered for the tournament.

Accommodation and food
The teams will be accommodated in schools in the neighbourhood of Grännäs football ground. The players will be transported by bus from the lodging place to the football ground according to a special time table. Bring a sleeping roll, a sleeping bag and a pillow.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and an evening snack will be served, consisting of nutritious and varied food. In the area of the football grounds there will be a kiosk with shopping facilities at good prices.
Participation fees (must be registered with us not later than 15 April 2012)
The fee is 995 SEK per player. Included in the fee is: full board and lodging ( 3 nights, breakfast, lunch, dinner, evening snack ), admission to beach party and outdoor disco as well as access to canoes, beach volleyball and sea activities.
Two leaders per team are free of charge. The charge for extra leaders is 995 SEK per person.
A list of participating players must be sent in as soon as possible after payment of participation fees have been made, on June 1, 2011 at the latest.
Registration and registration fee
Registration: Click on “registration” on our homepage and follow the instructions. After having received your application we will send you a receipt for your application followed, within a day or two, by a confirmation from us of your entry to Nils Liedholm Cup.
The registration fee is 1500 SEK per team. Programme with specified times will be dispatched after June 1, 2012.
We received a lot of bookings immediately after the cup tournament in 2011 why we recommend registration as early as possible to ensure an entry to the tournament in 2012.
Payment is made to bank account BG 5088 – 0350. Payment from other countries than Sweden is transferred to our bank, Valdemarsviks Sparbank.
The maximum number of teams is 40 and priority will be given to clubs that were early to send in both registration and registration fees. Please observe that clubs are not formally admitted to the cup until the participation fee is registered with us. Paid fees are not refundable. We reserve the right to cancel bookings of clubs that have not paid registration fees and instead admit other clubs having shown their interest.
